This coastal preference leaves a pronounced statistical void within the mountainous interior regions surrounding Nuoro, though the western perimeter maintains a dispersed chain of settlement through Alghero, Oristano and Carbonia.

Population density across Sicily elucidates a significantly higher magnitude of habitation, dominated by massive vertical spikes in the northwestern metropolitan zone of Palermo. The eastern seaboard exhibits a continuous dense consolidation stretching from the towering peaks of Messina down to Syracuse, with Catania serving as a central pillar of urban activity.
